Serious Politics,
Serious Fun
Enfield YC's offers members a range of activities and events - We run a weekly
programme of meetings which mixes in serious political speakers, talks from pressure
groups and others, with more social meetings such as quizzes, parties and receptions.
We even offer the opportunity to attend events organised by other bodies within the
Conservative Party. Representatives from the Branch attend Party conference, as well
as conferences organised by friendly political parties abroad.
Recent events have included:
 | Our Annual International conferences - Since 1992 we
have held an annual conference. The location of the conferences
rotate between locations in the UK and Germany. Although a the
notable exception to the rule of 1999's Lithuania based
conference. |
 | Other Conferences have been attended by members of the Branch in
places as diverse as Oxford, Osnabruk, Blackpool, and Brussels. |
 | Regular weekly meetings. Recent meetings have included;
 | a House of Commons meeting, |
 | a talk by the Gibraltan Government Representative, |
 | a speaker from the Referenda Society, |
 | tenpin bowling, |
 | talks by both the RSPCA and British Field Sports Association, |
 | a play night at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre, |
 | a Quiz, a debate, and a Chairman's Reception, |
|
 | Other activities, outside of the regular weekly meeting have included;
 | running a stall at the Enfield Show, |
 | the Great British Beer Festival, |
 | a sponsored swim - our 9th annual swim in coming up soon. Last year we
raised 200 Pounds which we donated to the Royal National Institute for the Blind. |
|
 | Political Campaigning, last but definitely not least. We
play a very strong role in political campaigning in our area; providing
Candidates from our ranks in the Council elections, and have run a Ward campaign in
every election since 1992. Not to mention providing mutual aid to Conservative
Associations out of our area. |
The Branch has done loads of other stuff recently, which if the editor of this
site could find his notes he'd be happy to put on the list!!

A Brief Branch History
There has been a thriving YC presence in Enfield since the creation the YCs as a
national movement after W.W.II from what was then the "Young Imperials".
(Jolly good chaps! tally ho.. ;-)
Enfield North YCs was formed in 1972 when the old constituencies of Enfield West and
Enfield East were combined due to boundary changes, to create the Enfield North
Parliamentary seat. The YC branches of Merryhills and Ridgeway merged to form the
new branch for the constituency. Initially the new branch was called
"Bycullah" (Enfield North) YCs due to the fact they met in the cellar of a large
Victorian house at 28 Bycullah Road, now demolished. Eventually the name Bycullah
was dropped in favour of just Enfield North YCs, the title still in use today.
Moving with the times, Enfield YCs are now a branch of Conservative Future, the latest
incarnation of the Conservative Party's representative body for younger people.
Geography
The Branch is based in the Enfield North Conservative Association Offices in Enfield,
Middlesex. Enfield North is the northernmost London
constituency. It is part of the London Borough of Enfield, which is made
up of the constituency's of Enfield North, Enfield Southgate and
Edmonton.
Although a London constituency, Enfield North is a demographically varied area.
There is light industry along the eastern side, farmland in the north west corner,
and urban to suburban housing in the remainder. There is also a growing
retail park section along the A10 which runs through the centre of the constituency
north to south. |
